No harsh or direct light shining into the dartboard surround. This includes venue spotlights, stage lights, sun from a window, or bright signage.
The LED ring light around the dartboard must be on and evenly lit during play. If segments are dim or out, detection degrades and the ring should be replaced.
If a lighting change in the venue (new fixtures, remodeled seating, changed window treatment) affects a lane, recalibrate after the change.
Dartboard
The dartboard must be secure and unable to rotate during play. A rotating board throws calibration off almost immediately.
The foam surround must be flush with the board surface, if it is lifted or warped it may affect detection.
Replace the dartboard if it's visibly damaged, the bullseye area is heavily clumped, or it no longer holds a dart reliably.
Darts
Dark-colored darts are ideal as they contrast well, avoid polished darts as this can negatively impact detection reliability.
Retire darts that are heavily scratched or have visibly worn barrels — scratched surfaces scatter light and confuse detection.
