Overview
In order for your Neoshuffle system(s) to perform reliably they require a stable network and reliable internet connectivity. This allows for optimal operation, remote support, and updates. The specific requirements for each product are outlined below. Each system consists of 2 key hardware components:
- The Game System, which handles gameplay, scoring, and puck/dart detection and connects directly to the display
- The Kiosk, a separate touch screen interface that acts as the primary user interface
Both the Game System and the Kiosk must be connected to the network and have a reliable internet connection, this allows GXT to provide remote support and is necessary for system updates. The Game System must be wired via Ethernet, the Kiosk is generally connected via Wi-Fi, as such they have separate requirements.
If necessary GXT can arrange for Neoshuffle units to be configured in such a way that an internet connection is not required, for more information about alternative network setups please see the relevant section below.
Many venues choose to place Neoshuffle hardware on a dedicated VLAN.
Game System Requirements
The below requirements are for the game computer, which should be hardwired via Ethernet.
| Metric | Minimum Requirement |
|---|---|
| Connection Type | Ethernet |
| Download Speed | 10 Mbps down, stable |
| Upload Speed | 3 Mbps up |
| Packet Loss | <0.5%, sustained |
| Latency * | <150ms |
| Jitter | <30ms |
Venue IT can verify outbound connectivity and latency using
https://api.goodtimestech.com.au/health. This endpoint confirms that DNS, HTTPS traffic, and regional API routing are functioning correctly. Sustained high response times or intermittent failures may indicate venue network instability, filtering, or routing issues.
The minimum network speed requirements above are required for reliable real-time communication, cloud connectivity, and remote support functionality. However, during updates the system may be required to download up to 5GB of data, at minimum speeds this can take considerable time and may be disruptive. Please consider this when evaluating available bandwidth and acceptable update windows.
Kiosk Requirements
| Metric | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Connection Type | Wi-Fi (or Ethernet if required) |
| Download Speed | 3 Mbps down, stable |
| Upload Speed | 1 Mbps up |
| Packet Loss | < 0.5%, sustained |
Wi-Fi considerations
- The Kiosk connects over Wi-Fi. Signal strength at the lane itself (not just in the venue generally) must be strong.
- Avoid hiding the Kiosk behind metal panels, inside closed cabinets, or near radio interference sources (microwaves, Bluetooth speakers).
- If the venue Wi-Fi is unreliable, consider a dedicated access point or extender for the lane area.
Static IPs
To ensure consistent addressing and simplify support, GXT requires static IP assignments or DHCP reservations for all installed systems.
Firewall Configuration
Neoshuffle units do not generally require firewall configuration changes, as they communicate using standard outbound HTTPS and secure WebSocket connections. Additionally Tailscale is used for remote connection and support. For clarity the specific ports used are below, the system primarily uses outbound connections only and does not require inbound port forwarding.
| Service | Protocol | Port |
|---|---|---|
| HTTPS API Traffic | TCP | 443 |
| Secure Websocket Traffic | TCP | 443 |
| DNS | UDP/TCP | 53 |
| NTP | UDP | 123 |
| Tailscale | UDP | 41641 |
| Tailscale Relay (Fallback) | TCP | 443 |
The following network configurations may negatively impact connectivity or remote support functionality:
- Using 'Guest' Wi-Fi networks with client isolation
- Networks with captive portals
- Networks that intercept, proxy, or aggressively filter encrypted traffic
Alternative Network Setups
If the above requirements can not be met it can be arranged for the system to be configured in such a way so as to reduce or eliminate dependency on continuous internet connectivity. However, the system will always require a local network for the primary system and the Kiosk to communicate over. If you have a need for an alternative setup please contact GXT via your sales representative, or directly by emailing support@goodtimestech.com.au.
